Grimes has said her ex-partner Elon Musk has become “unrecognisable” amid the resolution of a bitter custody battle over the pair’s children.
The pair were battling over custody of four-year-old X Æ A-12, also known as baby X; two-year-old Exa; and two-year-old Tau.
In a post on Musk’s platform X, Grimes said that it had taken around a year to resolve and in that time, the “love of my life” had become “unrecognisable” to her.

In a series of posts, Grimes explained the toll the custody battle had taken on her, which involved her not seeing one of her children for five months.
“I spent a lot of my time off with babies getting in my ten thousand hours of creative writing and mastering the art which I’ve never had,” she said. “Having babies rips you apart and puts you back together. Babies are ten thousand philosophy classes of s*** you can only learn from that experience.
“Spent a year locked in battle in a state with terrible mothers rights having my instagram posts and modeling used as reasons I shouldn’t have my kids and fighting and detaching from the love of my life as he becomes unrecognizable to me, with a fraction of his resources (or iq/ strategy experience), all the while I didn’t see one of my babies for 5 months.”

Grimes added that though the stress of the custody battle impinged on her creativity, she has now found her rhythm again.
“Poetry and pure raw emotion are pouring out of my soul at a rate I’ve never known, and Im improving deeply as a producer past the technical and back to the art after now knowing my craft so much better. + I’ve found the creative partners I’ve always wanted,” she wrote.
The controversies of Elon Musk
In the time since his relationship with Grimes ended, Musk’s views have become increasingly more right-wing.
He has become considerably more involved with Donald Trump, having interviewed him during his presidential campaign. Trump later gave him the job leading the new Department of Government Efficiency (Doge) when he returns to the White House in January.
Musk, along with Vivek Ramaswamy, will advise on government cost-cutting, finding ways to minimise “excess regulations” and “cut wasteful” spending.
Musk has also recently expressed anti-trans views, particularly in relation to his transgender daughter Vivian Wilson. In an interview with conservative commentator Jordan Peterson earlier this year, Musk repeatedly misgendered and deadnamed her, saying his “son” had been “killed by the woke mind virus”.
When Vivian changed her name in 2022, she also changed her surname to match her mother’s. “I disowned him, not the other way around,” she said in response.
Musk also said that he would move X’s headquarters out of California to protest new laws protecting trans students.
