Actress Hannah Waddingham has been praised for her response to a photographer who reportedly asked her to ‘show leg’.

Waddingham was outside on the red carpet ahead of presenting the Olivier Awards when, in a video posted on X, formerly Twitter, by @odeiotedlasso when a photographer made a comment. While the initial comment is inaudible, Waddingham’s response was clear: “Oh my God, you’d never say that to a man, my friend.”

She then threatened to move on from the area, adding: “Don’t say ‘show me leg.’”

The clip quickly went viral, with X users quick to praise Waddingham’s response to the photographer. One posted: “This is why I adore and admire her so far beyond her talent and her looks. She is FIERCE and will always call men out on their shit. She wasn’t scared at all. She’s not just standing up for herself here, but for all of us.”

Waddingham then went on to host the Olivier Awards, one of the most prestigious events in the theater world. It was the second ceremony in succession that she has been the host.

Waddingham has had high profile roles recently in Ted Lasso and Game of Thrones, but also has a long and successful career in the theater, including leading roles in Spamalot and The Wizard of Oz.

At the Oliviers, Sunset Boulevard won seven awards, equalling the record for most awards won by a musical at the ceremony. Its stars, Tom Francis and Nicole Scherzinger were among the award winners.

In addition, Sarah Snook, probably best known for her work in Succession, took the best actress award for her role in The Picture of Dorian Gray.
