Henry Cavill, star of Superman and The Witcher, will be past of the cast of the upcoming live-action adaptation of Voltron.

Well-loved show

The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Cavill is onboard for the movie being made by Amazon MGM Studios. Rawson Marshall Thurber is in the director’s chair for this one. He also wrote the script alongside Ellen Shanman.

Cavill joins Daniel Quinn-Toye in the cast. The young actor came to prominence acting on the stage alongside Tom Holland.

The film takes its inspiration from the well-loved animated show from the 1980s. Voltron followed a team of space explorers who pilot five robot lions, which can combine into a giant super robot, which is called Voltron. It ran for two seasons in the US, and was the top-rated syndicated children’s show for the two years of its original run.

Voltron’s first season was adapted from the Japanese anime show Beast King GoLion. The second season was an edited version of Armored Fleet Dairugger XV, with a heavily changed storyline.

However, what the plot for the film will focus on has not been revealed. We also don’t have a potential release date as yet either. However, filming is expected to  begin in Australia later this year.

Busy year

It’s been a busy year for Cavill, 41. Not only has he appeared in Argyle and The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, but he has also announced he is to become a father for the first time. Back in April, he and partner Natalie Viscuso announced the happy news – although the internet was being completely normal about that.
