- Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2 was meant to be released on August 16
- First film released in June starring Kevin Costner has underperformed at the box office
- Costner has reportedly invested million of dollars into the project

Kevin Costner vehicle Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2 has been pulled from its scheduled release date, reportedly after the first instalment underperformed at the box office.
No new date
Horizon 2 had been slated for release on August 16, but now production company Territory Pictures and distribution partner New Line Cinema have pulled it from that date, without specifying a new one. However, it is believed that a theatrical release is still planned.
This comes after the first instalment of the series, released on June 28 in the US, performed poorly at the box office, taking just $11 million on its first weekend and to date its worldwide sales amount to just $24.72 million, according to The Numbers. The film has also generally received lukewarm reviews from critics and moviegoers.
That number is barely a quarter of the $100 million it is thought the movie cost to make. It is believed that Costner has sunk tens of millions of dollars of his own money into the project.
Time to discover
By pulling the release of Horizon 2, it is hoped that it will give viewers more time to discover the first film, which hits streaming service Premium VOD later this month. It will also be available on Max too, although a release date hasn’t been confirmed. The Hollywood Reporter quoted a New Line Cinema spokesperson as saying this was the case.
Executives must hope this is the case as Horizon 2 has reputedly also cost $100 million to make, and a third part has already begun filming.
