That didn’t take long. Just days after The Willy Wonka Experience went viral for its awfulness, now apparently there is to be a film based on The Unknown – a character from that failed attraction.

Scottish film production company Kaledonia Pictures has claimed that a feature-length horror film, inspired by The Unknown, is being worked on.

The Willy Wonka Experience went viral across the world last week after visitors complained about – and shared video of – how awful it was. Organised by House of Illuminati, instead of the ‘world of pure imagination’ it was put on in a sparely decorated warehouse, with cheap props and few attractions. It was swiftly shut down after multiple complaints from customers.

An actress who played an Oompah-Loompah and was pictured looking sad has already become a hit meme and she has been interviewed on TV about her experiences.

But one of the highlights – or should that be lowlights? – was the appearance of ‘The Unknown’ a character in a black Scream-style cloak and silver mask, who jumped out from behind a mirror. Terrifying for small children, it has also never appeared in any book or movie concerning Willy Wonka.

The bizarre character has captured the imagination of the internet and now horror film producers too.

On a website purported to be by Kaledonia Pictures, there is a brief premise for the film. “The Unknown follows a renowned children’s book illustrator and his wife who are haunted by the tragic death of their son, Charlie.

“Desperate to escape their grief, the couple leave the world behind for the remote Scottish Highlands – where they unleash an unknowable evil.”

The website gives no other information, and only has ‘subscribe’ and ‘contact us’ buttons.

According to horror website Bloody Disgusting, the company is excited to begin production and they are aiming for a release date in 2024.

However, other information about the film – or Kaledonia Pictures, for that matter – is slim to non-existent. Will it go the way of the Wonka Experience? Time will tell.
