Plans for the third season of House of the Dragon are shrouded in mystery as some of its stars admitted they haven’t heard anything about it, let alone seen a script.

Not a jot

In a panel discussion at New York Comic Con, stars Matt Smith, who plays Daemon Targaryen, Fabian Frankel (Criston Cole) and Tom Glynn-Carney (Aegon II Targaryen) were asked about what they had heard about season three.

Glynn-Carney said he had heard “not a jot” when asked by moderator Josh Horowitz if he had seen a script for season three of the prequel series to Game of Thrones. Smith added: “I’ve heard hide nor hair.”

However, Frankel was slightly more forthcoming, saying he had “heard some things” before adding “I couldn’t possibly share here.”

This may concern fans of the show, especially as there has been no production start date announced for season three. In addition, HBO hasn’t revealed a premiere window for a new season yet.

There was a 20-month gap between the airing of the first and second seasons of House of the Dragon. Season two of House of the Dragon finished its run in August. This could mean that it is sometime in 2026 or possibly later that fans get to see season three.

Spinoffs planned

However, fans may not be without Westeros-based content for that long. Earlier this year, the creator of Game of Thrones, George RR Martin, told the Oxford Writers’ House that seven spinoffs are being developed, of which four are animated and three are live action. This is in addition to House of the Dragon.
