Tension is building within Lumon Industries as the season two finale of Severance nears. Ben Stiller’s psychological sci-fi series has given us several of the best hours of television this year and will no doubt be rolling in nominations once award season rolls back around.

But just how successful has the show already been from an awards standpoint?

Obviously, awards and nominations are not a surefire signifier of a show’s quality. The Wire and The Righteous Gemstones’ lack of nominations, let alone wins, at the Primetime Emmys and Golden Globes are testament to that. But pretty often, the best shows are well represented when the big prizes are handed out each year.

And in the solitary season it has been eligible for nominations, Severance has already been inundated with them.

No doubt there are more to come, with probably a few wins to boot, for season two and it’s various mindbending twists and turns (and goats and unsettling watermelon busts), but season one was a runaway success for Stiller, Adam Scott and co. as they racked up a mightily impressive 14 nominations across the 2022 Primetime Emmys and Primetime Creative Arts Emmys, alone.

Just two of the 14 nominations resulted in wins, however, with Oliver Latta and Teddy Blanks taking home the prize for Outstanding Main Title Design and Theodore Shapiro winning the award for Outstanding Original Music Composition For A Series.

Adam Scott was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor In A Drama Series, while Patricia Arquette, John Turturro and Christopher Walken were nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress and Actor, respectively. The series overall was nominated for Outstanding Drama, with Stiller receiving a nomination Outstanding Directing and Dan Erickson picking one up for Outstanding Writer for a Drama Series.

The 2023 Golden Globes produced another three noms, with the show being nominated for Best Drama Television Series and Scott and Turturro being put forward for Best Lead and Best Supporting Actor. Both the show itself and Scott were up for awards at the Critic’s Choice too, but neither would win.

Severance did win the 2022 Peabody Award for Entertainment, however, after also receiving five nods at the Saturn Awards that same year, before two more at the Screen Actors Guild Awards in 2023.

As for the future, Stiller has confirmed a season three is being written. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter in February, Stiller said “there is a writers room underway in L.A.,” when asked about the status of more episodes. However, Apple TV have not yet greenlit the season, so for the time being the show’s existence is up in the air, although it is highly likely we will be venturing back to Lumon in the near future after season two reaches its climax.
