Music megastar Beyonce finally won Best Album at the 67th Grammy Awards last night in Los Angeles.
The accolade finally put an end to what many believe to be a long-standing wrong in the history of this iconic awards show. The former Destiny’s Child singer has been nominated in the Best Album category on four different occasions and has been overlooked each time.

Now, that’s no longer the case.
Last night, Beyonce finally took home the Grammy’s top award for her most recent release Cowboy Carter. She looked quite shocked too, hugging her daughter Blue Ivy and husband Jay-Z before taking to the stage to tell the crowd that she felt “very full and very honoured.”
Released in March 2024, Cowboy Carter is Beyonce’s eight studio album. It re-contextualises America’s love of country music, shining a light on its links to Black musicians.

Beyonce is a Grammy over-achiever. The singer-songwriter is the most-awarded and most-nominated artist in Grammy history having gathered 99 nominations and 35 different Grammy wins.
Despite all this good fortune, 2025 marks the first time that the star has won the award for Best Album.
Beyonce first earned a Grammy nomination for her work with Destiny’s Child 25 years ago in 2000 at the 42nd Grammy Awards. A year later, her group took home Best R&B Song and Best R&B Performance By A Duo or Group.
In the years since, she’s taken home Grammy awards in categories like Best Music Film (Homecoming), Best Urban Contemporary Album (Everything is Love), Best R&B Song (Single Ladies), Best R&B Performance (Drunk In Love) and many more.
Who won Best New Album in 2024?
The decision to invite Taylor Swift to reveal the winner of this year’s Best Album is symbolic as she was the winner of the same category last year.
Swift won the Grammy for her album Midnights which marked the fourth time she’d won in the same category.
“I would love to tell you that this is the best moment of my life, but I feel this happy when I finish a song, or when I crack to code to a bridge I love, or when I’m shortlisting a music video, or when I’m rehearsing with my dancers or my band, or getting ready to go to Tokyo to play a show,” she said during her acceptance speech.
“For me, the award is the work. All I wanna do is keep being able to do this. I love it so much, it makes me so happy.”
