Another true crime documentary has been released, this time it’s about the highly publicized case of Gabby Petito. Streaming services have covered many famous cases over the years of serial killers and murders, and Netflix covered the recent series about the Menéndez brothers. The series went viral on social media. The show, Monster: The Lyle and Erik Menéndez story became the subject of edits, even though it is a true crime story. Now another viral story is being covered, the Gabby Petito documentary.
The Gabby Petito story, however, has been covered before. The case happened in August 2021, and two movies have been released and two documentary-style shows on other platforms. Now one of the big streaming services has produced its TV show, American Murder: Gabby Petito on the case.

Who was Gabby Petito?

Gabby Petito was a 22-year-old American travel vlogger born on March 19, 1999, in Blue Point, New York. In 2017 she graduated from Bayport-Blue Point High School, where she met her future husband-to-be, Brian Christopher Laundrie.

Frequently Petito would post travel vlogs with Laundrie to their shared YouTube channel, Nomadic Statik. At the time of Petito’s disappearance, she was traveling the USA with Laundrie in a van they lived in while on the road.
They began their travels in July 2021, and on September 11, 2021, Petito’s mother reported her missing. Her remains were found on September 19. After finding evidence that Laundrie was involved, an arrest warrant was sent out on September 23. Subsequently, on October 20, Laundrie’s remains were found at Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park. On November 23, it was concluded he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

The docuseries explores the “final days of Gabby Petito’s life” with her family members speaking about her last moments and revealing details about her and the case. The documentary also will delve into the relationship of Laundrie and Petito.
