- The recently announced Godzilla vs Kong will be the sixth
- There are also TV series that are part of the Monsterverse

Godzilla vs Kong 3 was confirmed in the works recently, the latest in the Monsterverse series of movies. But what order should you watch these movies in?
It was perhaps inevitable that Godzilla vc Kong 3 would be made after the success last year of 2024 hit Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. This movie was one of the biggest box office hits of last year: it had one of the biggest opening weekends of the year – taking $194 million at the global box office – and ended up taking more than $571 million in all.
Godzilla vs Kong 3, which is slated to hit theaters on March 29, 2027, will be the sixth movie in the Monsterverse – and you can real all we know about it here – but which order should you watch the rest of the Monsterverse in?
Godzilla (2014)
Godzilla has been seen on the big screen on numerous occasions over the years – with varying degrees of quality – but this was the first time since 1998.
Godzilla was the first film in this series and is notable for building the suspense before the final reveal of the monster, building the human story first. Of course, there is a huge battle at the end as Godzilla faces up to a couple of mutants that he must beat to save the world.
Kong: Skull Island (2017)
The film that began the crossover of the titans’ worlds. Again, Kong had been featured on the big screen numerous times, but this movie didn’t seek to retread old ground – so no shinning up the Empire State Building – but tell a new story. Skull Island focuses on a team trying to chart the great ape’s habitat, but then find it harbours more terrifying monsters. It also gave the first hint of the universe at the end of the movie as cave paintings are found depicting Kong fighting Godzilla and others (collectively known as the Titans)
Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019)
Next up was Godzilla: King of the Monsters. This movie saw an army of Titans start to trash the Earth. In the absence of Kong, a group of humans call on Godzilla to help sort the mess out. Showing some personality, Godzilla helps fight the monsters off. However, the movie didn’t do particularly well at the box office – something was needed to reinvigorate the franchise.
Godzilla vs Kong (2021)
Finally, we get the match-up between the two iconic monsters, and the Monsterverse was back in business. While movies with a ‘vs’ in the title can be awful – Batman vs Superman springs to mind – this bucked the trend.
The movie was funny and thrilling, moving beyond a straight fight between the Titans and into a bigger story. It was well received by critics – who had been ready to write the series off – and, most importantly, audiences.
Skull Island (2023)
This animated series, a sequel to the 2017 film, ran on Netflix and focused on a group of shipwrecked explorers who wash up on Skull Island and their adventures encountering giant prehistoric creatures, including Kong.
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters (2023)
This live-action TV series is the sixth instalment of the Monsterverse. It follows on from the original Godzilla film and follows siblings members of the Monarch organisation over three generations and 50 years and their encounters with Godzilla and other monsters. A second season has been greenlit by Netflix, but it hasn’t been announced when it will air.
Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (2024)
In this outing, the Titans team up against a new foe that lurks deep beneath the surface of the Earth. The new antagonist – designed to be a match for Godzilla and Kong – doesn’t disappoint and the pair must do battle to save the world again.
