- Iconic superhero family confirmed to be completing their trilogy
- Long-time writer and director is also back on board for third film
- Incredibles is one of Pixar’s biggest grossing franchises

Here is some Incredible news to get you excited – everyone’s favourite undercover superhero family is coming back for a third film.
The announcement by Pixar head honcho Pete Docter came at D23 2024 and was met with rapturous applause in the auditorium.
Returning leader
It was also announced that Brad Bird, who wrote and directed the first two films, is back again as writer and director.
But there were no other details forthcoming about the film, such as what the plot would be, a release date or whether the original voice cast would be reprising their roles.
The announcement was something of a surprise but is consistent with the company’s Pixar’s recently stated strategy. Back in May, Pixar’s president, Jim Morris, gave an interview to Bloomberg in which he said that Pixar plans to release three films every two years, with every other release being a sequel or spinoff.
However, Morris did not go into depth beyond this, giving few indications of which franchises may be getting sequels or spinoffs in the future.
Big success
But with Incredibles being one of Pixar’s biggest franchises in terms of box office revenue – Incredibles 2 was the company’s highest grossing film ever at $1.24 billion until Inside Out 2 overtook it earlier this summer – it was thought likely that a new film would be made.
Incredibles 2 was a huge success in 2018, coming 14 years after the first film in the series hit screens. The first film, which focused on the Parr family and their struggles to keep their super identity secret, was also a hit, taking $632 million at the global box office and being nominated for an Oscar.
