- Movie legend Sylvester Stallone has publicly backed Donald Trump
- He compared the president-elect to legendary leader George Washington
- Reaction to the news has been mixed on social media

Movie legend Sylvester Stallone has lit up the internet after he endorsed Donald Trump and compared him to president George Washington.
At an event at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club, Stallone introduced the president elect and in his speech, he called him “the second George Washington” and compared him to his iconic movie character Rocky.
“We’re in the presence of a really mythical character,” Stallone gushed. “I love mythology. And this individual does not exist on this planet. Nobody in the world could have pulled off what he pulled off, so I’m in awe. I’ll just say this – and I mean it. When George Washington defended his country, he had no idea that he was going to change the world. Because without him, you could imagine what the world would look like. Guess what? We got the Second George Washington. Congratulations!”
This public endorsement of Trump by Stallone has come of something of a surprise. The veteran actor did not publicly endorse Trump during the recent election campaign, nor did he in 2020. Although in 2016 he was quoted in Variety as saying “I love Donald Trump. He’s a great Dickensian character.”
Internet has its say
As usual, the internet has had its say on Stallone’s appearance at the event and glowing endorsement of Trump. Not all of it has been positive.
One user on X (which everyone still calls Twitter) said: “I stuck with Sylvester Stallone for almost 50 years, including Stop Or My Mom Will Shoot, but that ended today.”
Another said: “Stallone? Really??? I guess I’m the guy who roots for Drago now…” referring to Ivan Drago, Rocky’s opponent in 1985’s Rocky IV.
But some were happier with the news. “Sylvester Stallone just gave his support for Trump! I always knew Rocky wouldn’t let me down.”
In the run-up to the US presidential election on November 5, various celebrities announced their support for Trump or his democratic rival, Kamala Harris – find out who rooted for who here.
