Selena Gomez has had many viral moments recently, but this may be her best. She has recreated the set of Wizards of Waverly Place for a new music video, at least that’s what fans think.

The singer has been preparing to release her album with her music producer fiancé Benny Blanco. The couple worked on the collaborative album I Said I Love You First which will be released on 21 March. From the album, three songs have been released, including the sexually suggestive track Sunset Blvd.

The project is Gomez’s first studio album since her 2020 album Rare. Fans of Gomez are excited to see her get back into music. Many fans of the singer know her for her acting days on Disney Channel starring in the sitcom Wizards of Waverly Place.

The 32-year-old shot to stardom in the show playing rebellious teenager Alex Russo from 2007 to 2012. Briefly Gomez reprised her role in the show’s spinoff Wizards Beyond Waverly Place in 2024.

Disney fans were elated to see Alex Russo back on their screens even if it was for just an episode. The singer has been busy building her acting career, starring in four seasons of Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building and the Oscar-nominated Emilia Pérez.

Now for her new music video, Gomez has transported fans back to one of her earlier roles and recreated the famous set of Wizards of Waverly Place. Read on to see how the internet reacted.

On Instagram, Gomez posted a photo of her sitting in a room with furniture covered by sheets.

In her caption, she reflected on “[exploring] so many sides of ourselves”. She announced the music video for the new song Younger and Hotter Than Me which shares the “softer, quieter and more introspective” side of herself.

Fans went wild over the photo, as it looked like Gomez was hinting at reflecting on a previous part of herself. Considering she was on Wizards of Waverly Place for five years, that would be a big part of her!

However, Gomez has not confirmed that the music video will have a relation to the show. When she premiered Sunset Blvd the week before, fans thought there was an Easter Egg to an episode of the show.

This may be fans getting hopeful, unfortunately. Gomez has referenced the show recently and even sold Alex Russo’s wizard wand on her website for $4 this past week.

Internet reacts to the Wizards of Waverly Place ‘recreation’

As you can imagine, there weren’t many negative reactions to this revelation online. Ok, we are exaggerating, but who could hate on this?

Social media and X users were delighted by the concept of the new music video.

One fan declared that this would be Gomez’s “best” album.

Another declared it was “The crossover we didn’t know we needed!”

In response to the alleged crossover (Gomez hasn’t confirmed anything yet), one user declared, “Bring back the golden Disney Channel era”.

The ‘golden era’ of Disney Channel refers to the the mid-2000s from 2003 to around 2012 when shows like Wizards of Waverly Place, Hannah Montana and Good Luck Charlie aired.

Selena Gomez is back

Meanwhile, other fans thought the music video and album would signal Gomez’s comeback. She never left, she’s been too busy starring in award-winning projects!

One fan wrote, “Oh I think Selena is coming to dominate”.

Another user referenced the singer’s ‘comeback’ with a nostalgic close-up photo of the Russo’s living room from the Disney sitcom.

They wrote, “I love this style and colors.”

The post on Instagram led many fans to believe Gomez would re-do the interior of the Russo’s living room in the music video. When the show was airing the living room became an iconic symbol of Wizards of Waverly Place because it was so recognizable and colorful.

On a similar note, another fan praised Gomez for the “effort she’s put into it” and declared the music video would be “a banger”.

Selena Gomez is insane

Others branded the singer jokingly as “crazy” and “insane” for creating such a tribute for her fans. Many of her fans grew up watching her on Disney on the show and in the Disney Channel movies she starred in. The nostalgia is too real.

Hilariously, one account joked Gomez would make us return to Waverly Place with “a little spice”. Maybe she has done some redecorating?

Speculation on Wizards of Waverly Place

Cleverly a fan speculated the recreation of the set would have a deeper meaning. They posted, “She’s gonna be walking through her memories in the music video WE ARE NOT READY.”

If we consider the title, Gomez could be reflecting on her younger self. Maybe she is going back to a time when she was younger or more insecure, possibly when she was on the show as a teenager.

Another summarized everyone’s feelings on the upcoming music video and said, “Selena my heart is not ready for this mv”.

Gomez will release the music video on the night of the 20 March.
