- Gyllenhaal says Batman is a ‘classic’ role
- Batman: The Brave and The Bold set to premiere in 2026
- Gyllenhaal will star with Denzel Washington in Othello on Broadway
Road House star Jake Gyllenhaal has said that he would be honored to play Batman in the upcoming film that forms part of the reboot of the DC Universe.
In an interview with Screen Rant to promote his current film – the remake of 80s classic Road House – Gyllenhaal was asked if he would play the Dark Knight, and he wasn’t coy in his answer. “It would be an honor always,” he said. “Those roles are classics.”
Batman: The Brave and The Bold is set to the one of the centrepieces of James Gunn’s upcoming rebooted DC Universe, and its release date has been confirmed for 2026.
Robert Pattinson currently dons the cowl as Batman in The Batman and its forthcoming sequel, but these films are standalone to the new DCU.
Gyllenhaal is no stranger to superhero movies, having played Mysterio in Spider-Man: Far From Home in the MCU.
Gyllenhaal is not the only actor who has been linked with the iconic role. Christian Bale has played the Dark Knight in the recent past, while it has been confirmed that Ben Affleck won’t be returning to the role. Others thought to be in contention include Jensen Ackles (best known for The Boys), Michael Fassbender (X-Men) and Alan Ritchson (Reacher).
Gunn said last year that a script was in production, but other than a name for the film, little else – including when production will start – has yet to be confirmed.
In his Screen Rant interview, Gyllenhaal added that he will play Iago alongside Denzel Washington in a new Broadway version of the William Shakespeare classic ‘Othello’, which will premiere in 2025.
