- Talk of a live-action Teen Titans movie first emerged last year
- James Gunn and Peter Safran have given a promising update on it
- No word on any casting or release date yet

Teen Titans are one of DC’s most beloved superhero teams – and a live-action movie featuring them is now a step closer, the heads of the DCU have confirmed.
While news about a potential Teen Titans movie being part of James Gunn’s rebooted DC Universe first emerged in March last year. It was reported that Ana Nogueira, who has also written Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, was penning a script. However, there has been very little forthcoming about it since. Until now.
As reported by Variety, Gunn and DC Studios co-chief Peter Safran, gave an update on the progress of the DCU a group of journalists.
Out there
Reporters asked about various DC projects – rumored and confirmed – including Teen Titans.
Responding to a question its status, Safran replied: “The script’s not ready yet. I mean, I think we said that Ana Nogueira is writing that.”
Gunn then chipped in: “We haven’t said that.”
“No, I think it was out there,” Safran said.
Gunn shot that with “It’s out there,” implying that it had never been officially confirmed before. However, now that it definitely is out there, he added: “It was something that Aan was really impassioned about, and she turned over an amazing script for us. She’s fiddling with that now, but it’s definitely not a finished script.”
However, that was it for information about the movie. As it is still at an early stage – and Gunn and Safran are not greenlighting films until they are happy with the script – there are no details on potential cast members or a release date for the movie.
Who are the Teen Titans
Nevertheless, this is good news for the legions of fans of the Teen Titans. The team has existed in the DC comics in various forms since the 1960s. But it wasn’t until the 1980s that the series sold in great numbers, and by then what is considered the most recognisable line-up had been put in place, which included Robin, Beast Boy, Cyborg, Starfire and Raven. The team has continued since with various other superheroes coming and going from the lineup over the years.
Teen Titans has also gained legions of fans through two hugely popular animated series. The first, which ran from 2003 to 2006 was dramatic in its content. This was followed in 2013 by Teen Titans Go! a comedic interpretation of the team. The show has run for hundreds of episodes and had its own movie in 2018.
