- Jason Kelce confronted a homophobic fan who called his brother Travis a ‘f****t’ for dating Taylor Swift
- The Philadelphia Eagles legend has expressed his regret over the incident
- Kelce’s actions have received an overwhelming amount of support on social media
Jason Kelce has spoken out about the incident in which he smashed the smartphone of a heckler who hurled homophobic slurs in his direction.
Kelce, who was outside Penn State University’s Beaver Stadium for an appearance on ESPN’s College GameDay, was harassed by a heckler, who shouted “Kelce, how does it feel that your brother’s a f****t for dating Taylor Swift?” at the Super Bowl champion.
Rather than brush off the homophobic slurs, Kelce promptly turned round and slammed the heckler’s phone to the ground before picking it back up and becoming embroiled in a shouting match with its owner, who had tried pushing Kelce to the ground, shouting “who’s the f****t now?” .
Despite receiving a huge amount of support for his actions, Kelce expressed regret for his reaction when appearing on Monday Night Countdown ahead of Kansas City’s game against Tampa Bay, once the footage had already gone viral online.
“I’m not happy with anything that took place. I’m not proud of it,” Kelce began, “Within a heated moment, I chose to greet hate with hate and I don’t think that’s a productive thing. I don’t think it leads to discourse.
“In that moment I fell down to a level that I shouldn’t have. Bottom line is, I try to live my life by the golden rules. That’s what I’ve always been taught. I try to treat people with decency and respect. I’m going to keep doing that moving forward.”
Kelce’s brother Travis has been dating Taylor Swift since 2023, with the popstar attending many of the Kansas City Chiefs games over this season and last, including their victorious Super Bowl performance earlier this year against the San Francisco 49ers.
While Jason Kelce has expressed regret for the incident, there has got to be more than a few questions asked of a person who a) hurls homophobic slurs at somebody in public and b) does so at a 6’3, 300 pound,NFL Hall of Fame worthy center who is built like a grizzly bear.
At the time of writing, neither Travis Kelce or Taylor Swift have commented on the incident.
