Jeff Bezos made an oopsie. When he was going to greet his fiancée Lauren Sánchez, he face planted, and it was caught on camera. Sánchez, 55, was exiting the New Shepard rocket, which is owned by Bezos’ space company Blue Origin. She was part of an all-female mission, which set off on 14 April at 9.30 am and included singer Katy Perry and CBS Mornings co-host Gayle King.

The space mission lasted around 11 minutes and went viral on social media thanks to the memes. Many people couldn’t believe the billionaire, 61, would waste money on such a short trip to the Kármán line (the end of Earth).

According to Sánchez, Blue Origin aims to “build the road to space”. Although many stars found the brief space trip wasteful, more people saw the funny side in Bezos falling to greet Sánchez. See how the internet reacted to the viral moment here.

He fell flat on his face. As she exited the rocket as the first member of the crew back on Earth, Bezos rushed eagerly to greet her. In the video, Bezos appears to be running to open the rocket door for his bride-to-be and her crew, but he missteps.

Before he takes a tumble, he peers inside the rocket, presumably looking for his love.

Embarassingly, he didn’t simply fall, he fell right into a ditch!

After recovering, Bezos gets up to open the hatch door for the crew. When the hatch is opened, the journalist comes out and goes to hug Bezos.

How did the internet react?

Of course, the internet clowned the billionaire for his tasting-the-sand moment. However, others found the moment endearing since he was rushing to greet his woman.

Regardless, one user joked, “You’d think Bezos of all people would understand gravity”.

Evidently, since he owns a space company.

Meanwhile, others enjoyed the moment, with one user writing, “Fantastic,” followed by a GIF calling the mistake ‘absolute cinema’.


Jokingly, another user said, “That’s the same way his deliveries hit my porch”. The accuracy is real. Those delivery drives don’t mess around.

Elsewhere, another user referenced Neil Armstrong’s Man on the Moon speech. In a post, they joked, “One small step for Bezos, one huge face plant for mankind.”

Undoubtedly, that is the best joke of them all.

Alternatively, another user suggested Bezos was only copying Perry, who kissed the ground when she exited the rocket.

Obviously, the jokes continued to roll in. Likewise, another user quipped that Bezos was “head over heels” for his woman— pun intended.

Many defended Jeff Bezos

On the other hand, many X users defended the billionaire and his fall. For example, one user reasoned, “He looks a bit shaky because he’s hanging on to the capsule and he didn’t see the dip in the ground.”

Making a similar point, another user agreed that he fell because he “stepped in a big hole” and concluded that “it happens” sometimes.

Yes, it does, but not on national TV for most of us.

Then another fan argued, “Meh, he was worried about his girl, which is excusable for falling lol”.
