  • Rumours of the Succession star’s involvement in the project began back in May
  • The Bear’s Jeremy Allen-White has been cast to play Springsteen in the film
  • Strong revealed that his favourite Springsteen album is 1982’s ‘Nebraska’, the making of which is the focus of the upcoming film

Having been reported heavily back in May, Jeremy Strong has finally put an end to rumour mongering and confirmed that he is in fact officially involved in the upcoming Bruce Springsteen biopic, ‘Deliver Me From Nowhere’.

The film, written and directed by Scott Cooper (Crazy Heart, Black Mass) will focus on the making of The Boss’ seminal 1982 album ‘Nebraska’ and will star The Bear’s Emmy Award winning leading man Jeremy Allen-White as Springsteen. Strong, meanwhile, fresh off a critically acclaimed turn as Donald Trump’s mentor and attorney Roy Cohn in ‘The Apprentice’, will play Jon Landau, Springsteen’s longtime manager.

Speaking to NME, the Emmy winning Succession star confirmed his involvement as Landau while discussing why ‘Nebraska’ is his favourite Springsteen record.

“It just always spoke to me, there’s a melancholy to it. I am doing [Deliver Me From Nowhere] but I’d always felt that way about that album. There’s a narrative to it that comes from a very deep place in him and you can feel that.”

‘Nebraska’ marked a stark departure from Springsteen’s usual sound upon its release, and was the first major release The Boss did not tour. The darker, more solemn lyrics and tone did nothing to falter Springsteen’s momentum in the early ’80s as one of the most important lyricists and performers in rock and roll history. The record currently ranks at 150 in Rolling Stones ‘500 Greatest Albums of all Time’ list .

The follow up to 1980’s fellow classic ‘The River’, ‘Nebraska’ has been hailed as “one of the most honest and emotional albums in history” by Esquire, who draw comparisons with Joni Mitchell’s ‘Blue’.

Las Vegas based platinum record enthusiasts The Killers also cite ‘Nebraska’ as a major influence on their 2021 release Pressure Machine, with singer Brandon Flowers revealing in an interview that he recorded the track ‘Terrible Thing’ on a Tascam microphone as a direct nod to Springsteen’s recording method on the ’82 classic.

‘Deliver Me From Nowhere’ is yet to announce a release date as of yet, but a late 2025 drop would not be surprising. The film will mark a return to biopics for Allen-White as well, who starred as former wrestling champion Kerry Von Erich in last year’s widely acclaimed Iron Claw.
