Hollywood hot properties Jacob Elordi and Lily-Rose Depp have been signed up to star in Outer Dark, a new movie based on the book by Cormac McCarthy.

The pair have been signed up to star in the “dark fairytale”, which is set to be the first English-language film from director Laszlo Nemes, according to Deadline. Nemes is best known for the Oscar-winning Son of Saul. As well as directing, Nemes also co-wrote the screenplay alongside Clara Royer.

Outer Dark – a dark fairytale

The movie will be based on the 1968 novel of the same name by iconic writer McCarthy. Warning – things get dark, quickly. In the book, set in Appalachia during the Great Depression of the 1920s/30s, a sister gives birth to her brother’s baby. That baby is left in the woods to die by the brother, who then lies to his sister that the baby died. However, when the lie is discovered, the sister sets out to find the infant.

With the brother and sister out separately in the woods, their journeys are complicated by three strangers, who bring death and destruction wherever they go.

Elordi and Depp – rising stars

This new project comes after notable recent successes for Elordi and Depp. Depp, the daughter of Hollywood great Johnny Depp and singer Vanessa Paradis, was most recently seen in Nosferatu, which was nominated for an Oscar. You can find out about her net worth here.

Meanwhile Elordi, who made his name in the drama Euphoria, has received rave reviews for his performance in The Narrow Road To The Deep North. He also has two big starring roles coming up, as the creature in the Guillermo Del Toro version of Frankenstein and as Healthcliff in Emerald Fennell’s adaptation of the classic novel Wuthering Heights.

As reported by Deadline, Nemes said that it has been his “dream” to make Outer Dark into a film ever since he read the book. “And to find the appropriate cinematic language that would do justice to Cormac McCarthy’s evocative and cosmological work.

“Joined by two magnetic actors, I now feel it’s possible. The extraordinary source material is a profound inspiration to build a unique world that vibrates with life and death at the same time. An exciting road-movie, a terrible and beautiful journey into the labyrinth of the human soul – this is the ambition I have for Outer Dark.”

Filming on Outer Dark is expected to begin next year. A release date has not yet been confirmed.
