US president Joe Biden sent the online world into a frenzy last night with a bizarre post after the Kansas City Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl.

The Chiefs beat the 49ers 25-22 in overtime to win their second consecutive Super Bowl and third title in five years at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

Following the win, a tweet (do we still call them that?) from the President’s official account on X shows a picture of Biden with shining red eyes and the words ‘Just like we drew it up.’

The bizarre message quickly went viral, and, at the time of writing, had been viewed 84 million times – and was still rising rapidly – retweeted 162,000 times as well as receiving 371,000 likes and 74,000 reposts.

There have also been more than 42,000 replies. Ironically, an Elon Musk parody account  (@ElonMustAOC), summed up the feelings of many on X: “I thought this was a parody account but nope, it’s the President of the United States.”

Meanwhile others speculated if an intern on the President’s social media account had gone rogue by posting it, and some looked for whether it was evidence that Biden had somehow rigged the Super Bowl in the Chiefs’ favour to help his re-election bid– although the latter rumour had already been doing the rounds before the event.

The photo has also quickly become a meme and will no doubt be used extensively in the upcoming Presidential election and elsewhere in the coming months.

Given that much of the online the attention before and during the Super Bowl was on Taylor Swift – and her reactions to what her boyfriend, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, had been doing in the match – it was going to take something special, or downright odd, to pull focus from her, and Biden has done just that.
