- Action series Jack Ryan had ended after four seasons on Prime
- But now Krasinksi is reprising his role as the titular hero in a movie
- Krasinski will be the latest in a stellar line-up to have played Ryan on screen

Jack Ryan is coming back to the big screen – with John Krasinksi playing the hero, meaning he will be the fifth actor to take on the role in a movie.
Illustrious names
Krasinksi played the character of Ryan in four series of Jack Ryan on Prime Video, which ended in 2023. But now he is set to reprise his role for a big screen spinoff, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
If this is the case, Krasinski will become the fifth actor to play Ryan on the big screen in the past 34 years, and he will join some illustrious names too.
Alec Baldwin was the first man to play the CIA spy in 1990, in the now classic film The Hunt for Red October.
But when Ryan was next seen on screen in Patriot Games, he had a different face – this time Harrison Ford took on the title role. He also played Ryan in Clear and Present Danger.
Moving into the 2000s, and Ben Affleck was cast as Ryan in The Sum of All Fears.
The franchise was then left alone for more than a decade. Then, in 2014, Chris Pine starred in Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit. However, the movie wasn’t a great success, so it was never followed up with a sequel.
But after that film, a series was developed for Prime Video, which is where Krasinksi took on the role. The four seasons of the show, based on Tom Clancy’s best-selling novels, were a huge hit on the streaming service.
Returning names
For the movie, it has been reported that as well as Krasinksi, Wendell Pierce will return as former CIA chief James Greer and Michael Kelly is in talks to resume as Mike November, CIA station head.
Thus far, there has been no confirmation of which of the Jack Ryan novels the movie will be based on, or details of when it might be released.
Meanwhile, earlier this month, Krasinski’s former co-star on The Office, Jenna Fischer, announced that she was now cancer-free.
