Casting rumors have run wild since the announcement of the Britney Spears biopic. Rumors indicated that Millie Bobby Brown, Sabrina Carpenter, or Tate McRae could be in the running to play the star. What did Jon M. Chu say about casting for the Britney Spears biopic?

Chu responded to the rumors when reports surfaced that Grande, Carpenter, and Brown were rumored to have auditioned for the Britney Spears biopic. The news was broken by an article in Life & Style claiming these ladies were in the running.
In a statement on X, Chu denied the rumors and responded to the Life & Style article. He wrote in a post, “None of this is true. Sounds exciting, but have not had one conversation about casting this movie yet. We are way too early in development. Sorry.”

Grande starred in one of Chu’s recent movies, Wicked and Wicked: For Good, releasing later in 2025. The director was confirmed to be at the helm of the movie in January 2025, but progress appears to be slow on the project. You have to take time to cast Spears, after all.
Has there been any other news on the biopic?

At the moment, there is no other news on the Britney Spears biopic. What we do know is that Wicked producer Marc Platt is producing, and Universal Pictures is distributing it. Spears’ memoir does give some context on who will star in the movie.
It is likely the biopic will feature someone playing Spears’ ex Justin Timberlake and her parents, Lynne and Jamie Spears. Timberlake was a prominent part of Spears’ book, as she revealed early in their relationship that she fell pregnant and he allegedly instructed her to terminate the pregnancy.
For now, there is not much information on the casting or the plot of the Britney Spears biopic, but you can read the book to get an insight into Spears’ journey to the top.
