- Third part in the rebooted series will drop in 2026 ahead of two major blockbusters
- Stars from the previous films are in talks to return
- First two films have been hits with movie fans around the world

It has been confirmed that there is to be a third outing for the rebooted Jumanji franchise, and there are hopes for major stars to return for it.
Pre-Christmas slot
Sony has confirmed that Jumanji 3 will be released on December 11, 2026 – around the same time of year the previous two films have hit theaters. The film is set to be released the week before two major blockbusters – there is an as-yet-untitled Star Wars film on the slate for December 18, along with Dune 3.
Currently, the stars of the first two films – Dwayne Johnson, Kevin, Hart, Jack Black and Karen Gillen – are in talks about reprising their roles for the third instalment. However, Deadline reports that they are expected to sign up soon.
While the original Jumanji film from the 1990s involved a magical board game, the rebooted version, released in 2017, centred on kids getting stuck in a video game. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle took $962.5 million at the global box office. The sequel, Jumanji: The Next Level, released two years later, took more than $800 million.
Busy time ahead
If he signs on, then it looks like 2025 will be busy for Johnson. He recently teased a project he is working on with JJ Abrams. Johnson shared a picture on social media of himself and Abrams alongside scriptwriter Zak Penn and Hiram Garcia, one of Johnson’s partners. Along with this he teased something was in the making. Quite what remains to be seen, however.
Meanwhile Black is one of the stars of the upcoming Minecraft movie, based on the hugely popular video game series of the same name. Black will play Steve in the live-action film. But while he is a star name, the initial reaction to the first trailer for the film was mixed, to say the least.
