Katy Perry has successfully been launched into space.

The I Kissed A Girl hitmaker took part in the all-female Blue Origin mission to the edge of the outer space barrier.

Upon exiting the rocket, Perry seemed incredibly happy to be back, opting to dramatically kiss the ground. There really is no place like your home planet. Some might say this was dramatic as the New Shepard voyage only lasted eight minutes.

The singer wasn not alone as she was joined by five other women. These included broadcaster Gayle King and Lauren Sanchez. The latter is the fiancee of Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon who opened Blue Origin in 2000 as an attempt to turn space tourism into a viable industry.

The rocket blasted the pop star more than 62 miles into the atmosphere, going past the Kármán line. According to Blue Origin, this marks the “internationally recognized boundary of space.”

Taking off at 9.30 am EST, the group were launched into space from the firm’s West Texas facility.

Notably, the aircraft does not have a pilot and promises passengers  “several minutes of weightlessness and witnessing life-changing views of Earth.”

What did she say before going?

Since it became public knowledge, Perry was very keen to get involved with the mission. Prior to her invitation, she was seriously considering purchasing a ticket.

“Even when Blue Origin was first talking about commercial travel to space, I was like, ‘Sign me up! I’m first in line’. And then they called me, and I was like, ‘Really? I get an invite?’,” Perry told Elle magazine.
