- Reeves has signed up to voice Shadow in the upcoming Sonic The Hedgehog 3 movie
- Sonic The Hedgehog 3, starring Reeves among others, will be released on December 20

Keanu Reeves will make his debut as Shadow earlier than expected as he will voice the character in a Sonic video game that will be released before the movie.
Big reveal
The announcement that Reeves is playing Shadow in more than just the movie was announced during Sony State of Play. He will voice the anti-hero in Sonic x Shadow Generations DLC, the ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Movie Pack’, which will be inspired by scenes from the movie.
Sonic x Shadow Generations DLC will be released on December 12 – ahead of the film’s theatrical release on December 20.
This isn’t the first time Reeves has voiced a videogame character – he played Johnny Silverhand in Cyberpunk 2077.
Major plotlines
We first heard that Reeves would voice the enemy of Sonic in April. The announcement came just days after some major plotlines for the third instalment of the popular franchise were revealed. This included confirmation that scientist and Sonic’s chief enemy Dr Robotnik – or Eggman to Sonic – will be returning, despite being presumed dead at the conclusion of the second film. Jim Carrey is again donning the moustache for the role.
Sonic x Shadow Generations is an enhanced version of Sonic Generations from 2011 and will be released on October 25. It will be available on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC.
Series producer Shun Nakamura said on the PlayStation blog that the title was developed to not just satisfy Sonic game fans but also see the movies and are new to the world of Sonic and Shadow.
