Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) boss Kevin Feige has confirmed that we can expect fewer superhero movies and series per year from 2026 onwards, with a focus on quality, not quantity.

Focus on quality

Speaking at D23 in Brazil, Feige said that Marvel will be putting out two films and three series per year from 2026, as reported by Omelete. In recent years, Marvel has put out up to four films and four series per year, leading to accusations from some of ‘superhero fatigue’.

Feige’s words chime with what Bob Iger, CEO of Disney said back in May. In a Disney quarterly earnings call, Iger confirmed that the company plans to reduce the annual output of MCU-related content and focus on the quality of what it puts out.

Bumper year

But, as Feige said, this will happen from 2026 – and 2025 is set to be a bumper year for Marvel fans. On the slate, there are three movies to be released – Captain America: Brave New World (set for release on February 14), Thunderbolts* (May 2) and The Fantastic Four: First Steps (July 25).

Then there are six series planned too: Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man (January 29), Daredevil: Born Again (March 4), Ironheart (June 24), Eyes of Wakanda (August 6), Marvel Zombies (October) and Wonder Man (December).

While this seems like a lot, some of the scheduling is down to the unwinding of the delays caused by last year’s Hollywood writer’s strike and reshoots of certain projects.

Scale of Avengers movies

Feige also commented on how huge the upcoming Avengers movies are going to be. There are two films in the works currently, Doomsday and Secret Wars, which are set to be crossover events and will take up much of the studio’s focus. In between those films will be the recently confirmed Spider-Man 4 with Tom Holland reprising his role as Spidey.
