Everyone’s favorite Southern detective, Benoit Blanc is coming back to the big screen next year in a third instalment of the Knives Out series – and with a title that raises questions.

The film will be titled ‘Wake Up Dead Man’, which was confirmed by writer and director Rian Johnson (@rianjohnson) in a post on X – formerly Twitter. It was also confirmed that Daniel Craig will again play Blanc.

Johnson’s post also contained a 45-second teaser. “In the beginning, the knives came out,” narrates Craig, in Blanc’s trademark Southern drawl. “The behold, the glass shattered. But my most dangerous case yet, is about to be revealed.”

This film will follow Knives Out from 2019 and 2022’s Glass Onion.

Wake Up Dead Man will be distributed by Netflix, which is the second part of Johnson’s two-sequel deal with the streaming service. While the first film had a full theatrical release – and grossed $312 million globally at the box office – Glass Onion was only given a limited release in theaters before it dropped on Netflix.

Johnson added in a follow-up post on X that the film is about to go into production. “I’m very, very excited to share the title, which gives a little hint of where it’s going.”

He added in another post: “I love everything about whodunnits, but one of the things I love most is how malleable the genre is. There’s a whole tonal spectrum from Carr to Christie, and getting to explore that range is one of the most exciting things about making Benoit Blanc movies.”

This is a busy time for Johnson. Not only is he working on the latest Knives Out mystery, he is also working on a second season of Poker Face for Peacock and has recently signed a two-film deal with Warner Bros with his production partner Ram Bergman.
