She’s one of the most talented women on the planet.

But before she was famous, Lady Gaga had a few hurdles to overcome – namely, from her peers.

Back when the singer, 38, was in college, a now-infamous Facebook group was set up to try and dissuade her from her dreams.

Gaga attended New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts in the years before releasing her first studio album, The Fame. She withdrew from NYU in 2005 and began to perform in New York clubs while developing her stage persona.

Addressing Gaga by her real name, the social media page was cruelly titled ‘Stefani Germanotta, you will never be famous’. While it only had 12 members, it has since been deleted.

While the page has been public knowledge for a long time, Gaga herself has never spoken about it – until now.

Commenting on a TikTok video about the group – which put a screenshot of it side-by-side with a list of Gaga’s many accolades – she wrote, “Some people I went to college [with] made this way back when. This is why you can’t give up when people doubt you or put you down — gotta keep going.”

Gaga has the last laugh

Of course, Gaga got the last laugh – by becoming one of the most successful artists on the planet.

Not only has she sold an estimated 170 million records worldwide, but she is also the proud recipient of 13 Grammy Awards, 18 MTV Video Music Awards, and an accolade from the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

She has also won two Golden Globe Awards: the first for Best Actress in a Miniseries or Television Film for her 2016 role in American Horror Story: Hotel; and the second for Best Original Song in a Motion Picture for Shallow, written for the 2018 adaptation of A Star is Born.

The chart-topping single made her the first woman to win an Academy Award, BAFTA Award, Golden Globe Award, and Grammy Award in one year.

Gaga will soon hit the big screen once more, this time as Harley Quinn opposite Joaquin Phoenix, in the much-anticipated sequel Joker: Folie à Deux.
