One Direction singer Liam Payne reportedly had a variety of drugs in his system at the time of his death, including a mixture of cocaine, methamphetamine, ketamine and MDMA known recreationally as ‘pink cocaine.’

The 31-year-old died on 16 October after falling from the third-floor balcony of a hotel in the Argentina capital Buenos Aires. Now, an anonymous source close to the star’s toxicology reports has shared details that shine a light on the events leading up to his passing.

While a final toxicology report has yet to be revealed, both TMZ and ABC News have reported that Payne had a mixture of drugs in his system at the time of the incident, including the recreational ‘pink cocaine’ drug cocktail mentioned above which also is said to include crack cocaine and benzodiazepine.

“Improvised aluminium pipe”

According to the anonymous source who spoke to ABC, an “improvised aluminium pipe” used to “ingest drugs” was found in his hotel room.

While these early reports have been made public, it’s important to note that this information does not provide any indication of what level of each drug was in the singer’s blood when he died. Alcohol was also found in Payne’s apartment following his death.

Payne’s autopsy is currently still taking place, with the final results not expected to be released for some weeks. It has been reported that Payne’s body will stay in Argentina until the autopsy has finished.

According to the Associated Press, ABC’s source opted for anonymity as they were not officially authorised to brief journalists and the media.

Over the weekend, the singer’s father, Geoff Payne, visited Argentina to organise the transportation of his body back to the UK. Whilst there, he visited fan-made memorial sites, with mourners creating a barrier to protect the grieving father from photographers.

A number of Payne’s friends and collaborators have since shared tributes to the star online. His former partner Cheryl, with whom Payne shares a seven-year-old son named Bear, criticised “media exploitation” following his death and called for restraint in the weeks to come.

“As I try to navigate this earth-shattering event, and work through my own grief at this indescribably painful time, I’d like to kindly remind everyone that we have lost a human being,” the former Girls Aloud singer posted on Instagram.

“Liam was not only a pop star and celebrity, he was a son, a brother, an uncle, a dear friend and a father to our 7-year-old son.

“A son that now has to face the reality of never seeing his father again. What is troubling my spirit the most is that one day Bear will have access to the abhorrent reports and media exploitation we have seen in the past two days. It is breaking my heart further that I cannot protect him from that in his future.”
