  • Armstrong was unveiled as the band’s new lead singer yesterday (Thursday September 5)
  • The Dead Sara lead singer is a Scientologist who defended Danny Masterson during the trial in which he was convicted for rape
  • Fans on social media have criticised the move as Linkin Park release their first music since Chester Bennington’s death in 2017

Linkin Park may have excited a large portion of their fanbase with the appointment of Dead Sara singer Emily Armstrong as their new co-lead vocalist, but not everyone has been enamoured with the move, with Armstrong’s past involvement with convicted rapist Danny Masterson once again being put under the spotlight.

Armstrong, who was brought into Linkin Park alongside new drummer Colin Brittain (who has served as songwriter and producer for acts such as Papa Roach, Dashboard Confessional and 5 Seconds of Summer), is a member of the Church of Scientology, as is Masterson, and showed up to support the former actor in 2022 during the trial in which he was found guilty on two counts of rape.

Armstrong’s support of the actor during that trial has now become the subject of an online backlash, with the singer being labeled a ‘rape apologist’ among other things by furious fans of Linkin Park.
