Lizzo has been slammed by Britney Spears fans. The singer, 36, commented on Spears, 43, which fans did not appreciate. Lizzo has been in controversy in recent years because of her alleged behavior. In August 2023, three former dancers for the singer filed a lawsuit against her. The lawsuit accused Lizzo of sexual harassment and creating an unstable work environment. As an invidiual, the singer was dropped from the lawsuit in 2024.

She spoke out on the lawsuit in December 2024 on a podcast episode with Keke Palmer. Regarding the lawsuit, she said: “The hardest part about all this is that none of these things were true,” she said. “I was completely surprised. I was very deeply hurt because these were three dancers… that I gave opportunities to. These were people that I liked and appreciated as dancers, and respected them as dancers.”

Now, the Truth Hurts singer is in hot water again for something she said. What did she say?

On the Sibling Rivalry podcast, the singer spoke about Spears. Discussing the Circus singer, Lizzo said: “Britney Spears is doing a Janet impression.”

Fans of Spears were not happy about the singer’s comments. Many thought the comment implied Spears has no individuality and artistry and is copying Jackson as an artist.

The mother of two has praised Jackson as one of her influences before.

Jackson previously had a controversial moment during the 2004 Super Bowl with Spears’ ex Justin Timberlake. During their performance, Jackson’s nipple briefly popped out, sparking outrage among watchers.

In February 2024, Spears posted (and deleted) a sweet message that praised Jackson on social media. The singer said, “She’s always been the deepest and brightest woman at the same time. She went through so much, but I feel she is someone I will look up to for the rest of my life.”

How did the internet react to the comment?

Not well, to say the least! As a result of Lizzo’s comment, angry fans took to X to slam her. Some fans argued that the singer was pointing out Spears’ inspiration from Jackson.

A furious fan of Spears wrote in a post, “Dear Lizzo: Nobody asked your opinion on Britney, she’s a legend and you’re a flop”. Ouch!

Another fan recognized that while Spears drew inspiration from Jackson, she has undeniably crafted a sound of her own.

Savagely, another fan of the Princess of Pop said the singer only made the comments for attention. The user wrote in a post, “Britney is a music legend, and you are that girl who was accused of being abusive to people and then came crying to the internet because she was losing the stale bread she got.”

Britney Spears paved the way

An argument given by Spears’ fans on X was that she paved the way for other artists. Some said that artists today would emulate the style that Spears created. It is true – just look at Tate McRae!

One fan acknowledged that Spears was influenced by Jackson but urged Lizzo not to “minimize Britney.”

The comment by Lizzo was not a big deal

On the other hand, one user defended Lizzo and her comment. In a post, the user said, “This isn’t an attack. Don’t make it something it’s not. And this is coming from a DAY ONE Britney Stan”.

And there you have it! On Instagram, fans said the singer deleted a clip of her talking on the Sibling Rivalry podcast, but we can’t confirm.
