- LuckyChap to produce film based on classic board game Monopoly
- Monopoly is one of the best-known board games in the world and is currently sold in more than 100 countries
- Second game-related movie that LuckyChap has announced involvement in recently after The Sims

Monopoly has been a family favorite board game for decades, but now it is set to jump from the tabletop to the big screen, as it has been confirmed that a movie version is in the works.
While a Monopoly film has been talked about for years, it now seems like it could make it to the big screen as LuckyChap – the production company co-owned by Hollywood star Margot Robbie – is set to produce it, in conjunction with toy company Hasbro Entertainment, which makes the game, and Lionsgate, which has developments rights for the game. The announcement was made at trade show CinemaCon in Las Vegas.
“As one of the most iconic games in the world, Monopoly provides an incredible platform for storytelling opportunities,” said Zev Foreman, head of film for Hasbro Entertainment.
The news that LuckyChap is producing a Monopoly movie comes just weeks after the company revealed that it was producing a film based on another beloved game franchise – The Sims. Kate Herron is on board to direct the film. The company, owned by Robbie, along with Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara, scored two major hits last year with the $1 billion-plus grossing Barbie and cult hit Saltburn, directed by Emerald Fennell.
No details of about the movie – such as a director or when it might make it to theaters – have yet to be revealed.
Monopoly the most popular game brand in the world. It is sold in more than 100 countries currently and, since 1935, more than half a billion copies of the game have been sold.
