Marvel Studios has excited MCU fans by finally revealing who will be playing the lead characters in the upcoming Fantastic Four movie.
The quintet will comprise: Pedro Pascal will play Reed Richards (aka Mr. Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby is Sue Storm (the Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn is Johnny Storm (the Human Torch) and Ebon Moss-Bachrach is Ben Grimm (the Thing).
Matt Shakman – who was at the helm on WandaVision – is on directing duties, while the script was written by Josh Friedman, Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer.
The news was accompanied by a post on Instagram of 60s-inspired poster art featuring the four in their classic blue uniforms under a banner saying, ‘Happy Valentine’s Day’. Also included in the picture is H.E.R.B.I.E the robot – which could be a hint that he will appear in the movie too.
The movie, slated for 2025, sees one of the longest-established superhero teams finally enter the MCU. The Fantastic Four first appeared in 1961 and were created by the legendary team of Jack Kirby and Stan Lee. The Four start out as a team of astronauts who develop extraordinary powers after being exposed to cosmic rays during a space mission.
There have been two previous film versions of the Fantastic Four this century. 20th Century Fox Marvel released two films, 2005’s Fantastic Four, followed by Fantastic Four: Rise of Silver Surfer in 2007. The films were a box office success, taking more that $625 million globally. In 2015, there was an attempt at a reboot, but it was panned by the critics and tanked at the box office, making just $167.8 million.
Along with the cast announcement, Disney also announced that Fantastic Four’s release date is being swapped with Thunderbolts. Fantastic Four will now make its debut in cinemas on July 25, 2025, with Thunderbolts launching on May 2.
