Marvel Rivals has been a huge hit since its release, and one reason is for how it refers extensively to comic book history – but now it’s been found it also includes meme history too!
Moon Knight meme
Moon Knight is one of the more than 30 Marvel characters featured in the game, and players have noticed that his narrative in Marvel Rivals references a famous meme that involves him.
The meme dates back to 2018 but has been regularly reused and updated ever since. It involves a panel from the Solo Avengers #3 comic. In the original panel, Moon Knight is descending a staircase. In the fan altered panel, the dialogue is changed to Moon Knight moaning that Dracula owes him money.
Over the years, this panel has gone viral, and other altered panels have been uploaded by fans continuing the theme of Moon Knight seeking payment from Dracula.
So while its only ever been a joke on social media – and has never made the comics, even though Moon Knight does have dealings with vampires – the makers of Marvel Rivals have demonstrated how in-depth they have gone for fans of the heroes.
