• Myers made his first SNL appearance in 10 years last night (1 March)
  • The Canadian actor showed his disapproval of Trump’s comments relating to Canada
  • He portrayed Elon Musk in the cold open sketch

Mike Myers returned to Saturday Night Live for the first time in ten years with some strong words for Donald Trump – on his shirt.

The Canadian actor appeared as the credits rolled wearing a shirt that read ‘CANADA IS NOT FOR SALE’. This appeared to reference recent comments about Trump wanting to make Canada the “51st state”.

He then mouthed to the camera, “Elbows up,” meaning to protect yourself or fight back.

In January, a hat with the same slogan on it went viral just days after Trump was inaugurated. It was designed in a similar style to the ”Make America Great Again’ hats.

Incidentally, the show also had a musical guest from Canada in the form of Tate McRae.

Last month, Trump said that conversations about the prospect of annexing Canada were “a real thing”. After he returned to the White House, he also imposed tariffs on the country.

“I think Canada would be much better off being the 51st state because we lose $200 billion a year with Canada. And I’m not going to let that happen,” he said during an interview with Fox News. “Why are we paying $200 billion a year, essentially a subsidy to Canada?”

What did Myers do during the show’s cold open?

Myers appeared in a sketch which parodied Trump’s disastrous meeting with Ukranian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday (28 February). He portrayed Elon Musk, storming into the meeting holding a chainsaw.

“What are you doing in my office? You know, I’m the president now, right? I’m kidding. I’m kidding. Maybe not?” he said.

The chainsaw gesture was a reference to Musk’s on-stage actions at the Conservative Political Action Conference last month.

He later cried, “Legalise comedy!” and made a joke about “firing the nonessential employees like air traffic controllers.”

Myers was a cast member on SNL for six seasons from 1989 to 1995. He also appeared during the show’s 50th anniversary special last month.
