- Milly Alcock is playing Supergirl in the 2026 film
- The film is called Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow
- It is directed by Craig Gillespie

A first look at Milly Alcock as Supergirl in Supergirl: Women Of Tomorrow is finally here. Although the film won’t hit theaters until June 2026, fans now have a sneak peek. Ana Nogueira, known for writing Amazon Prime’s High Town, penned the script. Craig Gillespie, the director of Cruella, takes the helm for this project. The film follows Supergirl (Milly Alcock) and stays true to the DC comics.
In the comics, the plot of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow follows Supergirl, also known as Kara, on a revenge mission. The story, based on Tom King’s 2022 comic series, sees Supergirl hunting Krem of the Yellow after he murders an alien girl’s father. Alongside warrior Knoelle, Supergirl embarks on a journey to track him down and seek justice.
The original Supergirl, Kara Zor-El, who Alcock portrays, first appeared in comics in 1959. Otto Binder and Al Pastino created the character as Superman’s cousin. Over the years, Supergirl has evolved through several versions. Ten years ago Melissa Benoist played the character in The CW drama Supergirl, which debuted in 2015.
Milly Alcock was announced as the new Supergirl in January 2024. By then, she had already earned critical acclaim, most notably for her role as Rhaenyra Targaryen in the Game of Thrones spin-off House Of The Dragon. Now, with this sneak peek of Alcock as Supergirl, fans are buzzing with excitement. So, what exactly has been revealed in this first look?
Who shared the sneak peek?
DC Studios co-head James Gunn shared a sneak peek of Milly Alcock as Supergirl on X. Gunn posted a photo of Alcock sitting in a chair with her back turned, featuring the iconic “S” logo on it.
He wrote, “Thrilled to see cameras roll at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden on Supergirl, with Craig Gillespie at the helm and the phenomenal Milly Alcock as our Kara Zor-El. Craig brings an incredible sensibility to this story, and Milly is every inch the unique Supergirl envisioned by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Nogueira.”

When is Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow coming out?
The Supergirl movie will hit theaters on June 26, 2026. With filming just underway, the production appears on track for its summer 2026 release.
How did the internet react to the sneak peek?
The Internet reacted with mixed feelings, some positive and some negative.
Some were excited by Alcock’s casting as the iconic comic book character.
One user wrote: “Excellent casting choice in Milly. Now, make a real movie, not Iron Man, part 47, like Marvel.” To be fair, Marvel has a lot of movies in their different series.

Others expressed their general excitement for the movie. One user wrote: “Nice way to give tribute to this comic frame, and I am so hyped for Supergirl, DC looks so back on track rn,” with an attached photo from the comic series.
Others felt like the movie was returning to its comic roots. “This is starting to look like the Universe I grew up reading in the comics as a kid. Can’t wait to see it all come together on the big screen,” another user said.

Other users seemed on the fence, or just doubtful about the movie.
One user expressed their skepticism: “I’m a bit iffy about this. I’ll keep being curiously optimstic until more info comes out. Let’s hope for the best. Any news on costume reveal?”
Another person expressed confusion about filming the next movie before the first even comes out. The Superman film that just wrapped will introduce the new Superman, the new DCU, and will be released in July 2025. They wrote: “Isn’t the problem with filming the “next” movie before the first one comes out is that if there’s a huge backlash over anything that can’t be corrected until several films down the road? I mean, that’s the problem the last DC universe went through, and it’s the problem Marvel is going through now.”

Another user thought that “anything would be better than the awful TV Show version from the CW.” Damn, people don’t like Kara Danvers?
As the film has just started production, updates are few and far between. However, we will keep you updated on everything Supergirl as filming progresses.
