As we turn the calendar to April, we have another month full of exciting movies to go and see at the theater during and after the Easter holidays.

As the Easter break is upon us, or maybe we want to escape the notoriously changeable April weather, the cinema is an enticing place to spend an afternoon or evening. And Hollywood has not let us down with an array of movies spanning the genres coming out to tempt us into theaters.
Here is our rundown of six of the movies we’re most excited to see in April.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie
The second movie in the Super Mario franchise lands on April 1, right on time for the Easter break. The first movie was a huge success, so its no surprise that we got another outing for Mario, Luigi and co. The makers seem to be sticking close to the established stories and lore of the games again with this movie, with a plot loosely based on the Super Mario Galaxy games. We also get introduced to a lot more favourite characters from the Mario universe, including Yoshi and Princess Rosalina (voiced by real-life Mario fan Brie Larson). Hits cinemas on April 1.
The Drama
Romantic comedy drama The Drama stars Zendaya as bookstore clerk Emma and Robert Pattinson as Charlie, a museum director, as couple planning their wedding. However, their preparations are thrown into disarray days before their intended nuptials when an unsettling truth about one of the couple is uncovered by the other. Can they work things out?
4 Kids Walk Into a Bank
Liam Neeson ditches the action roles – sort of – to play a grandfather who steps in to become his granddaughter Paige’s guardian after her mother dies. However, when a group of criminals turn up at the door demanding that Paige’s grandfather join them for one last job (it’s always one last job, isn’t it?) she has a choice: let her reformed grandfather go back to his criminal ways, or get her three best friends together and do the job first? Arrives in theaters on April 17.
Lee Cronin’s The Mummy
Horror specialist Lee Cronin – known for films like Evil Dead Rise – has turned his attention the legend of the Mummy. After the horror-comedy versions of varying quality in recent years, Cronin is promising a more back-to-basics proper horror approach with his spin on the legend and why you really should let sleeping mummies lie. In theaters April 17.
You, Me & Tuscany
If you’re looking for a feel-good romcom, then don’t look any further than You, Me and Tuscany. Starring Halle Bailey (The Little Mermaid), Rege-Jean Page (Bridgerton) and some gorgeous Italian scenery, You, Me & Tuscany hits all the right notes you want in this sort of movie. Free-spirited chef Anna (Bailey), on a whim travels to Italy to squat in an abandoned villa of a man she barely knows. Adventures ensue, especially when she meets Michael, the cousin of the villa’s owner.
Michael
For understandable reasons, it has taken a long time for anyone to attempt a biopic of late King of Pop Michael Jackson. Michael was the biggest star on the planet in the 1980s and a compelling character before a series of allegations and scandals derailed his career and reputation. But Antoine Fugua has taken on the job, with Jaafar Jackson making for a spot-on rendition of Michael – but the star was his uncle. The movie focuses on Michael’s early success as part of the Jackson 5 and then as a solo star, but also doesn’t duck the hard questions. In theaters April 24.
