  • The six part series will feature interviews with McMahon and a host of WWE’s top stars
  • The documentary was already being produced before the sexual misconduct allegations came to light between 2022-2024
  • The series is set to premiere on Netflix on September 25

Netflix have released the official trailer for the eagerly anticipated Mr. McMahon documentary series, focusing on the life and alleged crimes of Vince McMahon, the former owner of WWE.

Chronicling the rise and fall of one of the most controversial figures in sports and entertainment, the upcoming series will look back on McMahon’s ruthless ascent to the summit of professional wrestling, evolving the business like nobody could have ever foreseen.

Culled from over 200 hours worth of interviews with McMahon himself (prior to his resignation from WWE) as well as some of the most successful superstars in WWE history such as Stone Cold Steve Austin, John Cena, Bret Hart, The Rock and Triple H, the six part documentary will provide an unflinching deep dive into McMahon unlike anything seen before.

The project is being helmed by filmmaker Chris Smith (Tiger King) and executive producer Bill Simmons (ESPN 30 For 30, founder of The Ringer), with Smith saying of the series, “The goal behind ‘Mr. McMahon’ was to pull back the curtain and reveal the true Vince McMahon, obscured beneath the persona he presented to the world. Over the four years of production, the story evolved in truly shocking ways, culminating in some extremely harrowing allegations. The final product is a revealing documentary that we believe offers a rich and nuanced portrait of the man and the complex legacy he left behind.”

McMahon purchased the then World Wrestling Federation from his father Vincent J. McMahon in 1982 and over the course of the next 40 years would almost monopolize the industry, buying up multiple wrestling territories across North America, culminating in his purchase of Ted Turner backed rival WCW in 2001. His business practices and treatment of the talent that worked for him has been the subject of multiple documentaries and interviews over the years, with several household names crediting McMahon with their superstardom and the millions of dollars that have come along with it. Others, however, have been regularly scathing about the former WWE chairman.

In 2022, McMahon would ‘retire’ after the Wall Street Journal revealed ‘hush money’ payments that had allegedly been made by the then WWE chairman to cover up workplace affairs and sexual misconduct. He would return to the company at the beginning of 2023 to help facilitate its sale to UFC owners Endeavour.

The 79-year-old remained in place as executive chairman of the newly formed TKO Group Holdings until January 2024, when allegations of sexual assault and sex trafficking came to light as part of a lawsuit filed by former WWE employee Janel Grant, with whom McMahon had a relationship with between 2019 and 2021. A day after the claims were made public, McMahon officially stepped down from TKO, ending his involvement with WWE after more than 40 years.

Mr. McMahon will premiere on Netflix on September 25 and will consist of six 60 minute episodes.
