While it has been confirmed that a new series of Dexter is in the works, with original star Michael C. Hall set to reprise his iconic character, fans are all asking the same question – how?

Really dead?

At the conclusion of the limited series Dexter: New Blood in 2021, Dexter appears to bleed out and die due to injuries inflicted by his son, Harrison. At the time, showrunner Clyde Phillipxs even confirmed Dexter’s demise.

But now, with the confirmation that Dexter: Resurrection is in the works, and that it will be a continuation from New Blood and star Michael C Hall as the titular serial killer, fans are wondering how he could come back.

The most straightforward theory is that Dexter didn’t die in the climactic scene and was rescued after the credits rolled. A more out-there theory is that he could return as a mental manifestation to Harrison – much like Dexter’s dad did in the original series.

But those behind the show are keeping their cards close to their chest right now about how it will be done, along with any other plotlines.

Prequel series

Hall is also keeping busy by providing the narration for the Dexter prequel series that is also in the works and set to hit screens in December of this year. In Dexter: Original Sin, Hall will narrate the 90s-set series, with Patrick Gibson playing the young Dexter.

The 10-episode series focuses on young Dexter as a student who is also undertaking an internship in the forensics department of the Miami Metro Police Department, while also honing his killer skills. It also starts Christian Slater as Dexter’s adoptive father, Harry, who teaches the youngster a code for killing – and how to avoid detection.
