Nicole Scherzinger is facing a barrage of criticism on social media, after she posted a positive comment on a post by Russell Brand.

In the hours before the US election, former comedian Brand, who has recently converted to Christianity, posted a picture on Instagram that includes a red hat with the legend ‘Make Jesus First Again’ on it. The post was captioned “God Bless America.”
Scherzinger replied to the post saying “Where do I get this hat”, as well as a red heart and prayer hands emojis, although this has now been deleted, as reported by Variety.
This post has angered many fans on the internet. Firstly, the iconography is associated with now president-elect Donald Trump’s ‘Make America Great Again’ slogan, often seen on red hats.
In addition, fans have called out Scherzinger for engaging with Brand, who is under investigation by police in the UK for sexual assault offences. Brand, however, has strenuously denied the allegations against him.
Scherzinger, who is currently starring as Norma Desmond in ‘Sunset Boulevard’ on Broadway – and has garnered rave reviews for her performance – has not yet commented on the controversy.
Social media has its say
However, people on social media have definitely had their say, and most of it has been negative. One X (everyone still calls it Twitter) user said: “Well the Best Actress Tony race just got a little less competitive.”
Another said: “Nicole Scherzinger being a trumpie was NOT on my bingo card”.
But another said that the furore “makes me realise a lot of you [X users] have no clue how celebrities behave in real life. She saw a Jesus hat and liked it that’s it.
“She is not on here reading up on Russell Brand, she has no clue what she’s on about.”
Scherzinger is also playing Sina, Moana’s mother, in the upcoming Disney movie Moana 2. Recently fans got a first look at a trailer for the film, with many giving positive reviews of it.
