- Olivia Rodrigo has revealed her unusual pre-show rituals in an interview
- The singer has adopted a very British phrase to ward off any bad vibes
- Meanwhile, Rodrigo actually took a tumble through a trap door while on stage in Melbourne this week

She’s one of the biggest pop stars of the moment.
And if you ever wondered about the secret behind Olivia Rodrigo’s success, she has now spilled the beans on her pre-show rituals.
In an interview with Australian radio station Triple J, the singer, 21, revealed she has a few whacky things she swears by before she steps foot on the stage.
“I am very supersitiious pre-show, to a degree where I’m like, ‘Wow, this is getting bad,” Rodrigo admitted. “I have to do the exact same move [before I get on stage]. When I exit my dressing room, I put my hands up and I take a deep breath before I walk out.
“And if I don’t do it I’m like, ‘It’s going to be a bad show’. I’m just letting everything go and just having fun on stage. Leave all the thoughts behind.”
That sounds fairly standard for a performer… but Rodrigo wasn’t finished.
“My in-ear tech, the guy who does my in-ears, my audio, he’s super British and he tells me – this is a British phrase – he goes, ‘It’s going to be a piece of piss Olivia, a piece of piss!’” she continued.
“And so, before every show, we say, ‘Piece of piss’. And if I don’t say piece of piss, I’m convinced it’s going to be a terrible show.”
Rodrigo falls through the stage
Elsewhere this week, Rodrigo went viral online – after videos emerged of her falling through the stage at a show in Australia!
Playing the concert at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena, the three-time Grammy winner can be seen racing across the stage to wave at one section of fans.
However, as she made her way back across stage, the singer disappeared through a trap door, narrowly avoiding suffering major injuries.
Thankfully, Rodrigo was fine. Very quickly returning to face the 14,000 fans in the audience, she reassured them she was okay, and laughed, “Oh my God, that was fun. Sometimes there’s just a hole in the stage. That’s all right.”
