Overwatch 2 players cheer up as Blizzard experiments with the return of the classic 6v6 mode while introducing a host of festive updates to wrap up 2024 in style.
6v6 Makes a Comeback
Aaron Keller, the game director, shared these stirring insights in the Director’s Take blog, updating fans regarding the studio’s plans. One of the most anticipated announcements is the experimental revival of 6v6 gameplay, the dearest mode to the OG players.
Overwatch 2 transitioned to a 5v5 format, shifting the dynamics of combat to emphasize faster, team-oriented battles. However not everyone seemed happy with this alteration and in response Blizzard has launched a test version of this mode with certain adjustments that aim to balance the inclusion of two tanks per team.
These include: changes in HP and ability reworks for heroes like Roadhog and Zarya. The surprises surrounding the 6v6 experiment also have a slightly different approach, blending the elements of the Quick Play Hacked mode.
This will allow flexible team compositions, “Max3, Min 1” rule, following this player can pick three heroes from the single role, however, it is mandatory to have at least one hero in each role.
Such regulation ensures balanced combats without restricting players from hero selection. Although Blizzard has taken this innovative step, there is still no confirmation if it will become permanent.
Character’s Evolution and Updates
Developers have brought updates to Hazard, a new character who recently joined the Overwatch 2 roster. This latest hero has gone through the evolution process, following the player’s complaints regarding its performance.
Now it’s doing way better than before with enhanced abilities. The discrepancies between PC and Console performance still exist but Aron has assured fans that these differences are being monitored.
Currently with Christmas vibes and Jingle bells all-around players are busy with holiday challenges, launched by Blizzard, offering season-themed skins, items, and more. Lastly, Keller expressed gratitude and concluded his remarks, he saying,
I’d also like to include a huge thank you to the rest of the Overwatch team. Your support for each other and dedication to the game (and to your craft), bring new and wonderful parts of this universe to life every day.
Expect us to come back in 2025 refreshed and ready to share all of the things we have in store in the weeks ahead! On behalf of everyone here at Team 4, Happy Holidays and may your Play of the Game highlights shine brightly.
