- Pacific Rim began as a film, there has since been a sequel and spinoff anime series

A prequel series to Pacific Rim, which explores the origins of it, is in development, according to reports.
First look deal
Variety has reported that the series is part of a first-look deal between Legendary Entertainment and Eric Heisserer.
The deal will see the writer and production company collaborating on “IP-drive and related projects”. The Pacific Rim series is the first fruits of this deal, with other projects presumed to arrive in time.
Heisserer is probably best known for his work on Arrival, but he has been involved in many shows over the years, including 2016 horror film Lights Out and Shadow and Bone, which was shown on Netflix.
He will work on the Pacific Rim show under the banner of his Chronology production company, which he runs with long-time collaborator Carmen Lewis.
Little information about the series has been released, other than that explores the origins of the story. Likewise no cast details have been announced or a timeline to the show arriving on screens.
Giant monsters
Pacific Ring was a 2013 film directed by Guillermo del Toro. The plot centers on humans creating giant humanoid mechas called Jaegers to fight off giant sea monsters, called Kaiju, that are threatening Earth. Set in the future, the Kaiju arrived on Earth through an interdimensional portal at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean. The plot focuses on a washed up Jaeger pilot teaming up with a rookie to defeat the Kaiju.
Since the original film, there was a sequel in 2018, Pacific Rim: Uprising, and an anime spinoff that aired on Netflix in 2021 called Pacific Rim: The Black.
