- Stars reportedly in talks to star in ‘re-imagining’ of cult action film
- Original 1997 film starred Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube and John Voight
- Tom Gormican is co-writing and directing

Revivals of old franchises are nothing new, but few of us saw Anaconda being revived – but apparently Paul Rudd and Jack Black are in talks to star in a new film.
Reimagining
The Hollywood Reporter has said that Columbia Pictures is planning to bring a new Anaconda movie to screens, with Black and Rudd in early talks to star in what has been described as a ‘reimagining’ of the 1997 cult film.
In addition, Tom Gormican – best known for odd Nicholas Cage meta flick The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent – is on board to co-write and direct the film. Kevin Etten is the other writer.
The Hollywood Reporter also cited sources saying the plot will involve friends facing mid-life crises and turn to remaking their favorite film from their younger days. They go out to the rainforest to do this, but end up battling natural disasters, violent criminals and, of course, giant snakes.
Cult classic
The original film from 1997, which starred Ice Cube and Jennifer Lopez, had a plot that saw documentary film makers head to the Amazon rainforest to track down a legendary green anaconda. However, it quickly turns out that the anaconda is hunting them. The film was panned by critics but performed well enough at the box office to get a sequel, 2004’s Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid. Three further movies followed, although all these were made for TV. Nevertheless, the film has garnered something of a cult following in recent years.
If Black agrees to appear in this movie, it adds to a busy time for the star. He is currently involved in the much-anticipated Minecraft movie, as well as other projects.
