A movie spin-off of the hugely popular TV series Peaky Blinders is set to start filming in the summer of this year.

Peaky Blinders’ creator and writer, Stephen Knight, recently confirmed that a script is almost written, with filming set to start later in the year.

It is nearly two years since the sixth and final season of the drama about a group of gangsters in early 20th century England aired. But since then, the show’s popularity has remained constant and fans have hoped for a big screen version to see the light of day.

Previously, Cillian Murphy, who played Thomas Shelby throughout the six-season run of the show, has said he would be open to reprising the role, if there was a good story to tell. Other cast members have indicated that they would be consider returning too.

Little is known about the plot of the film, although it is believed it will be set in the second world war era – which plants it between 1939 and 1945. More cryptically, Knight has said that the film will be “the same but different” to the TV series and to “expect the unexpected”, according to an interview he gave to the Radio Times in the UK.
