The Philadelphia Eagles are Super Bowl champions.

Nick Sirriani’s men ran out comfortable winners in New Orleans, dominating now-former champions the Kansas City Chiefs from start to finish in a game that saw Patrick Mahomes endure a night to forget.

The Eagles defence absolutely smothered Mahomes and co’s offence, rendering Travis Kelce anonymous and intercepting Mahomes on multiple occasions. The Chiefs didn’t even get a score on the board until deep into the third quarter as the Eagles claimed their second Super Bowl in franchise history and avenged their 2023 defeat to the Chiefs.

Mahomes and his teammates have dominated the NFL for the last four years, taking three Super Bowl titles with them. Coming into tonight’s game they stood on the edge of history. Victory against the Eagles would make Andy Reid’s team the first to win three straight Super Bowls.

Jalen Hurts and his teammates had very different ideas.

Mahomes took six sacks and 11 hits, finishing 21-for-32 with 257 yards, three touchdowns, two interceptions and a lost fumble. Two of those touchdowns came when the game was already well beyond the Chiefs, however.

With Bradley Cooper’s impassioned introduction ringing in their ears as they took to the field at the Superdome, the Eagles were relentless from minute one.

Hurts, meanwhile, finished with 221 passing yards, delivering three touchdowns off a Super Bowl rushing record for a quarterback of 72 yards. But, obviously, the Eagles quarterback was far from the only player in green who showed up and showed out. Rookie cornerback Cooper DeJean, celebrating his 22nd birthday, hit a 38-yard touchdown, before Hurts fired a 12-yard touchdown pass to A.J. Brown following a pick by linebacker Zack Baum.

DeVonta Smith’s third quarter 46-yard touchdown put matters beyond doubt, with the final quarter almost a Gatorade-soaked victory parade for the Eagles, despite Mahomes throwing two touchdowns to make the score a tad more flattering for the beaten Chiefs.

Of course, social media had a lot to say as events unfolded in The Big Easy…

Congratulations, Eagles. And good luck to anyone in Philadelphia hoping to get any sleep in the next seven days.
