- Pixar considering rebooting franchises to boost audience interest
- Pixar plans to release three movies every two years – with every other being a sequel or spinoff
- Toy Story 5 is slated for release in summer 2026

Pixar is considering rebooting some of its most beloved franchises, as well as releasing new films, as part of a plan to revive audience numbers.
While Pixar has an impressive roster of big grossing films at the box office – as well as making billions in merchandising – some of its recent releases have not performed to previous standards. Toy Story spinoff Lightyear was not a critical success, and Elemental didn’t perform well when it was initially released but did have an uptick in revenues in later weeks.
Franchise reboots
So, to boost revenues, Pixar is considering rebooting some of its franchises, such as Finding Nemo and The Incredibles.
This potential move was released by Pixar’s president, Jim Morris, in an interview with Bloomberg. This will be alongside movies featuring new, original ideas that could potentially turn into franchises.
Morris added that Pixar plans to release three films every two years, with every other release being a sequel or spinoff.
However, Morris did not go into depth beyond this, giving few indications of which franchises may be getting sequels or spinoffs in the future – but it is likely that its best performing ones will be towards the top of the list.
Wished for sequels
Pixar is already working on Toy Story 5, which is slated to be released on June 19, 2026.
Earlier in the year, a poll on Pubity’s broadcast channel asked which film they would like to see have a sequel, and the winner was WALL-E – the 2004 film about a worker robot on a ruined planet Earth.
