- Tarantino had been working on The Movie Critic, but has canned the project
- Brad Pitt had been in talks about reprising his Cliff Booth character for the movie
- He has said that the 10th film he directs will be his last

Quentin Tarantino has scrapped plans for The Movie Critic to be the 10th and final film he directs and is now looking for another project to direct.
Multiple sources have reported that the director has backed away from the project, which was set to start shooting later this year after being worked on for months.
Brad Pitt had reportedly been in talks to reprise his character of Cliff Booth – first seen in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood – for The Movie Critic.
The Movie Critic had started out as being about a cynical movie critic in California in 1977, but had evolved to feature Pitt’s Booth character – although it wasn’t known if the film would be a direct prequel or sequel to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Now it seems we will never know as Tarantino has changed his mind about the film entirely.
Tarantino has famously pledged to retire from directing after releasing his 10th movie. He has currently directed nine, starting with 1992’s Reservoir Dogs and 2019’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood being the latest. It is nine if you count Kill Bill and Kill Bill 2 as one movie – which had been Tarantino’s original intention.
However, when that 10th film does come out, it doesn’t mean Tarantino, who is 61, plans to retire completely. He has talked about potentially directing plays, and he is also a writer, having published a novelisation of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood back in 2021.
