Rapper Flavor Flav has been a vocal supporter of the US water polo teams recently – and now has even taken the plunge with the women’s team.

Leaving his trademark clock medallion poolside, Flav donned swim shorts and a USA water polo cap and jumped in the pool with the women’s squad to have a go at the sport.

Believe the hype

Flav has recently signed on to be the “official Hype Man” for the UAS Water Polo Women’s and Men’s National teams at the forthcoming Olympic Games and beyond, which will be held in Paris, France.

While Flav was heard saying that “this ain’t easy”, he nonetheless was captured on film scoring a goal.

Instagram appeal

This seemingly odd link-up between rap royalty and a niche sport began in May, when Women’s team captain Maggie Steffens posted on Instagram appealing for support for the team. While they are backed by USA Water Polo, and the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee, many athletes still need to juggle jobs – sometimes more than one – and training to get the money together to be able to travel and compete.

Flav saw the post and decided to get involved and pledged to use his relationships and resources to help them.

The US Women’s Water Polo team go to Paris looking to make history by becoming the first nation to win the Olympic gold medal in four consecutive games. However, despite the team’s success in recent years, the team are relative unknowns – but with Flavor Flav on board, this is set to change.
