Robert De Niro is living his 80’s like most people live their 20’s and 30’s. Last year he became a father again and this past week the legendary actor celebrated turning 81 by jumping off a yacht into the ocean. As you do.
The Goodfellas star was filmed by his daughter Drena, who then uploaded the, frankly insane, clip to social media, with herself and many others laughing, cheering and also seeming quite worried about the octogenerian who had just plummeted into the ocean from a great height.
Thankfully, De Niro appeared fine after the Olympic level effort, reassuring his family after he’d recovered from the splash. For all we know, the 81-year-old could be revisiting his notorious method acting days and be getting into character for an upcoming Greg Louganis biopic.
De Niro received an Academy Award nomination earlier this year for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon. It was his ninth Oscars nomination, having won two for Godfather II and Raging Bull. We personally believe he should receive a third award for this dive alone.
As Bobby D chills in the ocean, someone, potentially his daughter Drena, can be heard asking how high the dive was from to which another person, off-camera answers “30 feet. Thirty six feet?”
